Throughout the fourth bimester, fifth-grade students had the opportunity to write their first argumentative essay in English. As part of this process, they explored some of the dichotomies presented in The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis. Students were able to select the dichotomy that resonated most with them.
Over the course of the bimester, students learned how to formulate a thesis statement, support their ideas with textual evidence, and develop a coherent conclusion that reflected their analysis of the chosen dichotomy. This essay also marked their first introduction to APA Style guidelines and the process of applying them in academic writing.
